Getting into Animation

I’ve been telling friends and family for some time now that my goal this summer is to dabble into doing some animation.
I’ve played around on Adobe Flash and with an App and my phone and tablet called Flipclip, taking the time to learn. I’ve found some great resources on YouTube of other animators and their content. Animation is an interesting form of art. It’s not like normal drawing where there is lots of form in the 2-D space, animators have to draw the same image a bunch of times to allow it to look good.

I haven’t been able to do any big projects yet on Flash, but with Flip clip I have been able to do some small 12 frame looping projects. I’ve been leaning about movement and observing how form moves for animation. There is a lot to take in.

Along with using the programs and YouTube as resources, I also went to the library for another resource about traditional animation. I found a book called, the art of Stop-Motion Animation by Ken A Priebe. The author is a young guy who is a teacher at a University. I haven’t gotten into the meat of the book as of yet, leaning about some history currently.

I want to do a lot of these GIF videos that loop. It will be a simple thing to animate that I can use to push my skills. I have many ideas for what I want to do in the Future. I’m hoping video Animations will be a more engaging and enjoyable form of art beyond all the 2d stuff I will be doing in the future.
